It’s finally here!
In the 2024 Town Meeting, Canterbury voted for Warrant Article 19 to approve expending $10,000 to create a new website for the Town. Several bids were evaluated and the contract went to hasOptimization, a local Canterbury web development company.
After many months of work, consulting with residents and board members, reorganizing files, fixing bugs, and uploading content, the website is finally “done”. And if you are reading this article, you are looking at it!
One of the main changes you will notice is the web address is different. Our website is now canterburynh.gov, not canterbury-nh.org. This switch over started several years ago, but due to technical difficulties with the old website, that change didn’t really happen until now. If you go to the old web address, you will now be redirected to the new one. So any old links out there should still get you where you need to go.
Another thing you might notice are the updates. When I said the website is “done”, I meant that we have completed the basics, but there are a lot more improvements ahead.
The main issue with the previous website was that it used an outdated form-builder that was buggy and brittle. It meant that things like the Calendar were broken for years, but we still couldn’t remove it from the Home Page. It meant that boards and committees couldn’t get access to update their own pages. It meant that half the time when we tried to fix something, something else would break in response.
Now that we have a functioning backend, we can make changes whenever we like! So if you find bugs or have ideas about how to improve the experience, you can let us know and we can fix it.
Some features that didn’t make it into the first release but are upcoming include: subscribing to news and the calendar, interactive maps, and applications that can be filled out online.
